Review of Nikon D5600, price, release date, technical characteristics

It has been more than a year since Nikon D5500 was announced and judging by the update rate of this line, we can say that Nikon D5600 is going to enter the market. Frankly speaking, we cannot expect any significant changes: at least for the reason that now cameras are equipped with such modules as Wi-fi and GPS, functions of video recording in 4K resolution, etc. In fact, producers began to pay more attention to additional functions which do not directly influence the photo quality, but the price is increasing significantly. So let’s take a closer look at Nikon D5600.

Review of Nikon D5600

Nikon D5600

The camera will get a next-generation processor – Expeed 5, which appeared in D500 and D5FX immediately after its release and showed high-quality performance. Of course to see the difference between Expeed 4 and Expeed 5 is almost impossible on Nikon D5600 and especially on the cheap lens. However, the fact that the quality of entry-level DSLR is growing slowly but steadily pleases. The number of megapixels will stay 24.1 with a maximal resolution of 6000 x 4000 px like in the previous three models of this line. Anyway, there is no point in worrying about it, in fact, for DX camera that is enough to complete tasks at 99%. The number of AF points will remain thirty-nine, nine of which are of cross-type; it is also, in our opinion, more than sufficient. The angle of viewfinder will not change, and will be 95%. Nikon D5600 will also be equipped with a sensor cleaning function, which is especially important for those who dislike cleaning the camera in a manual way, but it is not a novelty because you could also clean the matrix from dust in three previous models. And the use of this feature is doubtful because it does often not cope with its task properly. The number of photos to complete discharge will be about 600-700. It is worth noting that you can charge Nikon D5600, like the D5500, directly via USB cable from the computer or via the adapter from the power mains.

The shooting speed may be increased up to 6 shots per second in the following modes: jpeg/NEF RAW 12 bit and up to 5 shots per second in NEF RAW 14 bit. The dynamic range equals 0-20 EV in matrix or center-weighted metering and 2-20 EV in spot metering. Exposure compensation will range from -5EV up to 5 EV. Nikon D5600 will certainly have a touch screen, which first appeared in the previous model. When shooting in Live view mode, it will allow focusing on an object just by pressing the necessary location on the screen. ISO range will be upgraded to 100-51200. AF sensitivity threshold remains the same for the three recent models: from -1EV to 19EV, which does not allow you to focus precisely on an object in the darkest conditions of shooting. Therefore, threshold is likely to be lowered to -2EV in the Nikon D5600, which will allow using high-aperture optics twice as effective. If the D5600 also remains without the low-pass filter, it will add one more point to an increase in image sharpness.

Video recording in 4K resolution

Of course, most bloggers and those who like recording video on their DSLR cameras hope Nikon D5600 will provide shooting in 4k resolution. If the manufacturer adds this function, it will substantially raise the price of the camera. Considering that, this camera is designed for amateurs, not every fan will want to overpay. After all, it is a camera and its main purpose is to take pictures. However, the GPS function, which the D5300 had and with the help of which you could add geo-tags to your photos, but later this function was removed in the D5500 model, is likely to appear again. The upgrade of this kind is also doubtful, as not everyone needs this function, but has to overpay.

Release date of Nikon D5600

If we see to how often the cameras of these series enter the market, we can notice that it usually takes a year or a year and a half. The exact release date is unknown yet, but it is planned for the second half of 2016.

The Price of Nikon D5600

The price of the new camera will be approximately $ 900 depending on the complete set (kit 18-55, 18-105, 18-140, or the body).
